Kashi Vishwanath Dham Records Over 3 Crore Footfall in First Quarter of 2024, Boosts Local Economy

The majestic transformation of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham corridor continues to rewrite tourism history in Uttar Pradesh, drawing unprecedented numbers of pilgrims and boosting local trade.

Varanasi has witnessed a historic surge in spiritual tourism as official data reveals that over three crore devotees visited the Kashi Vishwanath Dham during the first quarter of the year. The seamless integration of the temple corridor with the banks of the Ganga has dramatically improved crowd management, allowing thousands of pilgrims to offer prayers daily without enduring the bottlenecks of the past.

Local businesses, from traditional sweet vendors in Godowlia to silk weavers in Madanpura, report a multi-fold increase in their revenues. Hotel occupancy rates across Cantt, Sigra, and near the ghats have hovered near 90 percent even during non-festival weekdays. The Yogi Adityanath government’s sustained focus on infrastructural upgrades, including river cruises and cleaner ghats, has successfully converted Varanasi into a round-the-year tourism hub rather than a seasonal destination.

District administration officials noted that advanced multi-level parking facilities at Godowlia and interconnecting electric bus services have eased commuter woes significantly. 'Our priority is to provide world-class amenities to every pilgrim while preserving the ancient soul of Kashi,' stated a senior divisional commissioner. With ongoing projects like the Varanasi ropeway nearing completion, the local administration expects tourism metrics to shatter previous records in the upcoming festival season.
