Kashi Vishwanath Dham Corridor Transforms Local Retail Economy, Footfall Crosses 10 Crore
Ever since the inauguration of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham, businesses around Godowlia, Maidagin, and Chowk have witnessed a multi-fold economic expansion, creating thousands of new direct and indirect jobs.
The monumental redevelopment of the Kashi Vishwanath Dham has fundamentally altered the commercial landscape of old Varanasi, turning the surrounding pilgrimage circuit into a booming economic powerhouse. According to recent trade assessments by local merchant associations, overall commercial turnover in the Godowlia-Chowk corridor has escalated by nearly 250% over the past two years, buoyed by an influx of over 10 crore pilgrims and tourists.
Retailers dealing in traditional brassware, wooden toys, Rudraksha beads, and GI-certified sweets like 'Malaiyyo' report historic high revenues. Real estate valuations for commercial properties near the temple periphery have also soared exponentially. To manage the vehicular congestion caused by this sudden economic boom, the administration is currently fast-tracking multi-level parking projects at Maidagin and Godowlia.
Shashank Jain, president of the Varanasi Vyapar Mandal, stated, 'The Dham has breathed new life into traditional trades that were slowly fading away. Small-scale artisans and sweetmeat vendors are reaping the benefits of organized tourism infrastructure.' The ripple effect of this tourism boom has also significantly bolstered the local hospitality and transportation sectors across Varanasi.
