Varanasi Airport Gear Up for Night Landings with CAT-III Instrument Landing System Installation
Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport at Babatpur is undergoing crucial technical upgrades to ensure uninterrupted flight operations during dense winter fogs.
To eliminate seasonal flight disruptions caused by the dense fog typical of the Gangetic plains during winter, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has commenced the installation of the Category-III (CAT-III) Instrument Landing System (ILS) at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport, Babatpur.
Once fully operational, the advanced navigation system will allow commercial aircraft to land safely even when visibility drops to critically low levels, reducing diversions and delays that have historically plagued Purvanchal's air connectivity between December and February. Airport Director stated that civil engineering works for runway approach lighting and calibration are progressing rapidly in coordination with aviation experts.
Frequent flyers, business leaders, and tourism stakeholders in Varanasi have lauded the administrative decision, pointing out that reliable air connectivity is vital for the region's burgeoning export and tourism sectors. With international flights linking Varanasi directly to Sharjah, Bangkok, and Kathmandu, the CAT-III upgrade marks another milestone in positioning Babatpur as a premier international aviation hub in eastern Uttar Pradesh.
