Varanasi Cycling Club Organizes 'Heritage Tour' to Promote Eco-Tourism and Fitness
Over 150 cyclists participated in an early morning heritage cycling expedition from Assi Ghat to Sarnath, promoting fitness, sustainable transport, and Kashi's rich archaeological trail.
Combining physical fitness with the celebration of local heritage, the Varanasi Cycling Club successfully organized a 20-kilometer 'Heritage Ride' connecting two of Kashi's most historic landmarks—Assi Ghat and the archaeological site of Sarnath. Over 150 cyclists, ranging from school students to senior citizens, assembled in the pre-dawn hours to pedal through the awakening lanes of the ancient city.
The rally was flagged off from Assi Ghat, moving through Godowlia, Maidagin, and Cantonment before reaching the tranquil paths of Sarnath, where Lord Buddha delivered his first sermon. Organizers stated that the event aims to promote cycling as a healthy lifestyle choice, encourage eco-friendly commuting in congested urban zones, and showcase Varanasi's tourism potential from a fresh perspective.
Participants expressed delight at experiencing the city's architectural contrast—from bustling spiritual ghats to serene Buddhist ruins—on two wheels. Traffic police ensured smooth passage along the route, and the club announced plans to make the heritage ride a monthly fixture on Varanasi's sports and wellness calendar.
