State-of-the-Art Trauma Center Established Near Babatpur Airport to Handle Highway and Air Emergencies
To minimize the 'golden hour' mortality rate along the Varanasi-Jaunpur highway, a new 50-bedded trauma care facility has been commissioned near Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport.
Addressing a critical gap in emergency medical logistics, the Uttar Pradesh government has inaugurated a specialized 50-bedded trauma care center situated strategically near the Babatpur airport corridor. Equipped with advanced life-support ambulances, modular operating theaters, and round-the-clock emergency triage, the facility is engineered to stabilize victims of high-speed vehicular accidents along the Varanasi-Jaunpur and Varanasi-Azamgarh highway stretches.
Divisional Commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma inspected the facility and emphasized that rapid transit protocols have been established with nearby traffic police units. “In trauma cases, the first sixty minutes dictate survival and long-term recovery. This center ensures that patients do not suffer delays navigating inner-city traffic congestion around Godowlia or Sigra during peak hours,” Sharma stated. The center features dedicated orthopedic, neurosurgical, and critical care specialists deployed on rotational shifts.
Local residents and transport unions have lauded the government's move, noting that previous emergency evacuations meant negotiating congested city roads to reach BHU or the district hospital. The facility is also equipped with a helipad enclave to facilitate air-ambulance transfers for critical patients requiring specialized tertiary intervention in Lucknow or New Delhi.
