BHU Department of Physical Education Launches Grassroots Football Talent Hunt Across Purvanchal

Banaras Hindu University has initiated a comprehensive scouting program aimed at discovering football prodigies in rural schools across eastern UP, offering specialized coaching and scholarship opportunities.

In a major boost to football development in eastern Uttar Pradesh, the Department of Physical Education at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has launched a comprehensive grassroots talent hunt. The initiative targets school children aged 12 to 17 across rural pockets of Varanasi, Ghazipur, Sonbhadra, and Mirzapur, aiming to bridge the gap between rural potential and professional sports training.

Prof. Rajiv Singh, head of the department, noted that Purvanchal possesses immense natural athletic ability, which often goes unrecognized due to a lack of structured scouting networks. A team of university coaches and national-level players is visiting district schools to conduct trials in speed, endurance, ball control, and tactical awareness. Selected candidates will be invited to a residential summer camp at the BHU grounds.

Selected youngsters will receive specialized coaching, nutritional support, and academic backing under the university's sports quota scheme. Local sports clubs and district football associations have lauded BHU's proactive approach, predicting that this initiative will soon feed talented players into the state and national leagues from the heart of Kashi.
